The Department offers some of Cal State East Bay's most rapidly expanding degree programs. Public Health and Health Sciences majors are passionate about enhancing community well-being across California. These students are training for diverse careers including public health, health policy, legal professions, health education, program development, community wellness, behavioral health, workplace safety, and beyond. Our curriculum examines population health through lenses of equity, social justice, and the impacts of evolving physical, social, and political landscapes. Students are challenged to analyze health through multiple viewpoints while considering cultural influences on health perceptions.
Problem-based learning forms the foundation of our educational philosophy. We prioritize cultivating analytical reasoning, collaborative abilities, and innovative solution-finding. The flexible BS in Health Sciences accommodates students pursuing clinical paths (like medicine, law, nursing, or allied health professions), those seeking broad health knowledge, or learners crafting personalized academic plans with faculty guidance.
