The Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies features a cohesive curriculum that explores international dimensions across multiple academic fields. This program aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge about globalization and the global community, while allowing them to focus on specific areas of personal interest. Students may also pursue a Global Studies minor.
To fulfill major requirements, students must complete five introductory courses (totaling 15-16 units). This includes two foundational Global Studies classes (GLST 101 and 102) plus one course each in geography, economics, and humanities/modern languages. These lower-division requirements align with the Global Studies transfer degree offered by California Community Colleges.
Upper-division coursework comprises 29-32 units, including classes in modern history, global cultures, international politics, and sustainability, along with two GLST courses (GLST 499 and 398 - the latter may be waived for study abroad participants). Students complete their major with at least 12 units of specialized international coursework, focusing on a specific world region (such as Asia), academic discipline (like anthropology), or thematic area (for example, human rights). Numerous elective options satisfy general education requirements, and the Global Studies major complements many other degree programs for students pursuing double majors within their 120-unit academic plan.
