The Ethnic Studies program features an interdisciplinary major that takes a comparative perspective on the study of racial and ethnic minorities in the United States. With a curriculum emphasizing social justice, our program equips students to understand the cultural traditions, historical experiences, and contemporary challenges facing communities of color. Graduates emerge prepared to engage meaningfully with diverse racial, ethnic, and gender communities.
The 36-unit Ethnic Studies major offers significant flexibility, enabling students to focus on a specific group while developing broad expertise across various communities of color. Working with academic advisors, students customize their path through 18 units of core requirements, 12 units in their chosen specialization, and 6 units of electives. Concentration options include: American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, Black Studies, Genders and Sexualities in Communities of Color, and Latinx/Chicanx Studies.
