The Ethnic Studies program features an interdisciplinary major that takes a comparative perspective on the study of racial and ethnic minorities in the United States. With a curriculum centered on social justice, our program examines the cultures, histories, and lived experiences of communities of color, equipping graduates to thrive in diverse, multicultural environments.
The 36-unit Ethnic Studies major offers students significant flexibility to focus on a specific group while developing broad expertise across various racial and ethnic communities. Working with academic advisors, students customize their path by completing 18 units of core requirements, 12 units in their chosen specialization, and 6 units of electives. Concentration options include: American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, Black Studies, Genders and Sexualities in Communities of Color, and Latinx/Chicanx Studies.
