The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry delivers comprehensive training in chemical sciences, equipping students to excel in modern society. Our programs enhance analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities across all disciplines. For non-science majors, we illuminate chemical principles in daily life, fostering understanding of environmental concerns, energy systems, health maintenance, and dietary science. Science students master core chemical concepts governing molecular interactions, while biochemistry students build upon mathematical, physical, and biological foundations to explore all major chemistry branches - inorganic, analytical, organic, and physical - with specialized biochemistry coursework. All students acquire essential safety protocols for handling chemical substances. Emphasizing knowledge creation as vital for developing competent scientists, we actively promote undergraduate research initiatives and cooperative learning experiences.
Our undergraduate offerings comprise: Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry (including Bioanalytical/Forensics and Education concentrations), Bachelor of Arts degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry (with Education options), plus a Chemistry Minor. Detailed program requirements appear in respective degree listings. Graduate studies include Master of Science programs in Chemistry, with a Biochemistry specialization available. Consult our program directory for complete descriptions.
