Communication studies form the fundamental basis for all academic fields, as messaging lies at the core of conveying meaning. Human identity is deeply rooted in our capacity to communicate.
The Communications Program's main objective is to equip students with advanced understanding of media organization and utilization, preparing them for careers as communication experts. The program emphasizes mastering communication methods, developing strong writing and practical skills, understanding professional ethics, and learning media regulations. Additionally, it examines media's role in society from local, national, and global viewpoints.
CSUB provides communication students with extensive practical experience. Journalism majors publish both print and digital editions of The Runner newspaper, along with podcasts and blogs. Digital Media students produce original video, audio, and interactive content. Public Relations students master the art of crafting and implementing communication plans to enhance organizational image.
California State University, Bakersfield's Communications Department provides a Bachelor of Arts degree with three specialization options: Journalism, Public Relations, and Digital Media.
