The Chemistry Department provides both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs in Chemistry. The B.S. program features two specialized tracks: 1) Chemistry, meeting the professional standards set by the American Chemical Society (a national accreditation body), and 2) Biochemistry (also ACS-approved), designed for careers in biochemistry and allied disciplines. These programs equip students for research roles in industrial and government settings, while also laying the foundation for graduate studies. The B.A. program offers broader academic flexibility with less chemistry specialization, making it ideal for students pursuing a Secondary Teaching Credential.
Our department prioritizes experiential education, featuring state-of-the-art teaching resources. Chemistry majors have access to cutting-edge facilities including a computational chemistry lab and advanced instrumentation such as GC-MS, AA, FT-IR, HPLC, and a modern multi-nuclear FT-NMR spectrometer.
The B.S. program delivers comprehensive training for biochemistry and related careers, meeting ACS professional standards. This intensive curriculum prepares graduates for industrial and governmental research positions while providing strong preparation for advanced academic study.
