The Caltech doctoral program in social and decision neuroscience (SDN) trains students to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying decision-making processes and social behaviors.
SDN brings together professors, postdocs, and graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds who study how people make choices when facing significant personal decisions.
This field of study demands expertise in computational modeling, statistical analysis, systems neuroscience, and neural measurement techniques including fMRI, EEG, and single-cell recordings, along with knowledge of relevant social science methodologies and findings.
Graduates pursue academic careers in neuroscience, psychology, marketing, economics, political science, or finance, as well as industry roles in tech, data science, finance, and neurotechnology fields.
Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree or the equivalent before beginning graduate study.
Applicants whose native language is not English and those who have had no formal instruction in English will be required to take a test to evaluate English proficiency. Please refer to "Required Tests" for a list of the GRE reporting requirements and the English proficiency exams currently accepted. The admissions committee may also consider research papers, publications and other original work.
