Many students choose English as their secondary academic focus. The program's focus on writing and analytical reading cultivates communication abilities that benefit careers in science, engineering, and healthcare. This English track also serves as strong groundwork for professions in legal, corporate, and management sectors, as well as any occupation requiring advanced communication skills.
In their final year, usually during the first two semesters, English track students take En 99 ab (Senior Tutorial for English Majors) with a faculty advisor selected through mutual consent. This Senior Tutorial exposes students to sophisticated literary research techniques and evaluation methods while evaluating their advancement in intensive text and contextual analysis. Under faculty guidance, students develop, draft, and refine a 25-30 page research paper on a self-selected topic.
International citizens must have completed Caltech's required academic preparation during their secondary school career.
Additional requirements of our international citizen applicants: TOEFL scores: Required of all international citizens unless 1) your native language is English or 2) you have studied for two or more years in a school where English is the language of instruction.
