Forensic chemists utilize principles from chemistry, biology, and genetics to examine evidence collected from crime scenes
The forensic chemistry program at CBU equips students for entry-level roles in forensic science while establishing a robust chemistry foundation for diverse career paths. Learners benefit from extensive practical experience and faculty-guided research collaborations. The curriculum culminates in a senior capstone involving either a crime lab internship, faculty-supervised research, or a literature-based thesis. Participants gain practical skills using analytical instruments identical to those in professional crime laboratories. After completing each chemistry course sequence (General, Organic, and Analytical), students achieve knowledge levels matching national chemistry standards.
Graduates will develop competence in effectively communicating scientific information through both verbal and written formats.
Students will acquire skills to implement instrumental and laboratory techniques for solving practical scientific challenges.
The program prepares students to identify forensic chemistry issues, formulate testable hypotheses about evidence, design and conduct analytical experiments, interpret data using proper instrumental and statistical approaches, and reach valid conclusions.
