The Computer Science Department's master's program caters to both professionals aiming to enhance their computer science skills and students preparing for advanced graduate studies. The curriculum provides three specialized tracks (thesis, project, or coursework-only) allowing students to tailor their education to align with their career goals and background. At Brown, computer science courses are led by renowned faculty members who have established the department's standing in cutting-edge education and research. The department covers diverse computer science disciplines such as algorithms, AI, automated reasoning, brain-computer interfaces, computational biology, cybersecurity, cryptography, database systems, distributed computing, e-commerce, graphics, human-computer interaction, nanotechnology, NLP, networking, operating systems, optimization, programming languages, robotics, software engineering, and stream processing. Typically, completing a Master's degree involves three to four semesters of full-time study, with the duration varying based on prior preparation. Full-time enrollment requires a minimum of two courses per semester.
Graduates of non-U.S. colleges and universities who have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree may apply for admission to the Brown University Graduate School.
Regarding TOEFL, the recommended minimum score for admission consideration is 577 on the paper-based test and 90 on the Internet-based test. For IELTS, the recommended minimum overall band score is 7.
