The Department of Education provides a year-long program designed to equip students for professional careers or further academic pursuits in urban public education policy analysis, planning, and development.
This curriculum combines research, theory, and practical application, offering students essential knowledge and competencies in data analysis, evidence-based decision making, economic theory applied to urban education policy, urban politics in education, human development within urban educational environments, and urban demographic studies.
The program pairs rigorous academic study with a nine-month field internship in urban education policy settings. It leverages the specialized knowledge of Education Department faculty and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, while partnerships with Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America, Policy Lab, Swearer Center, and other departments enhance the program's practical and interdisciplinary focus.
Graduates of non-U.S. colleges and universities who have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree may apply for admission to the Brown University Graduate School.
Regarding TOEFL, the recommended minimum score for admission consideration is 577 on the paper-based test and 90 on the Internet-based test. For IELTS, the recommended minimum overall band score is 7.
