The Theatre Arts and Performance Studies program adopts a comprehensive approach to examining theater and performance through historical, theoretical, and methodological lenses. Our curriculum provides a thorough foundation in global theater history while employing performance as an analytical framework to investigate mimetic practices in social contexts. Students can tailor their academic journey by selecting from our robust course offerings in performance theory, theater history, cultural studies, visual studies, and international performance traditions. We actively promote interdisciplinary learning across the University and encourage students to utilize the rich academic resources available both on campus and throughout Providence. As part of our program requirements, all students engage in pedagogical training through teaching assignments within our department, with specific teaching assistant roles being assigned in collaboration with each student's advisory committee.
