The School of Engineering emphasizes distinctive and creative faculty groupings. Research teams bring together diverse engineering specialists alongside non-engineers to address major challenges in modern engineering and science. Given the extensive scope of these research areas, potential students should thoroughly review the engineering department's website to learn more about specific research initiatives.

Graduate students typically select an advisor early in their studies and frequently engage in independent research from the program's outset. Working closely with their advisor, each student crafts a personalized academic plan combining coursework and research, equipping them for future careers in both academic and industrial settings.
