During the early stages of this field, researchers concentrated on studying the architecture and operations of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, carbohydrates, and micronutrients like vitamins. Currently, the systematic methodology and techniques of biochemistry are extending into novel domains such as neuroscience, developmental biology, immunology, pharmacology, and synthetic biology (which involves creating biological system analogs). Biochemistry education starts with fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Certain classes from other disciplines, including engineering, earth sciences, and computer science, also prove beneficial.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
