Students focusing on theory (formerly Track 1) can explore specific historical periods, artistic mediums, or text creation methods alongside theoretical examinations of cultural analysis frameworks, such as the differentiation between elite and popular culture. Potential areas of study encompass film studies, gender/sexuality research, digital platforms, television analysis, post-colonial studies, literary fiction, contemporary philosophy, avant-garde arts, audio culture, and investigations into ideological and subjective frameworks. The program encourages all concentrators to engage in creative work using contemporary mediums or textual forms. MCM's perspective on creative production emphasizes the inseparable connection between theoretical concepts and practical application, highlighting their mutually beneficial relationship. Here, production represents a theoretically grounded field of activity where established cultural forms are both challenged and expanded, working in tandem with the critical analyses pursued throughout the MCM curriculum.
