The Medieval Cultures concentration spans the sixth to fifteenth centuries, offering an interdisciplinary approach while allowing specialization in one or two fields. While Western Europe remains a core focus, students can explore other cultural regions like Byzantine, Islamic, Judaic, or Slavic studies. Freshmen and sophomores are advised to enroll in the foundational Medieval Perspectives course. The program requires ten approved courses, featuring two medieval history classes and one 1000/2000-level course involving primary texts in a medieval language. Students should consult with faculty advisors to develop their concentration plan, which must be reviewed and approved by the Program Chair.
