To be eligible for honors, students must focus on GNSS studies and maintain a B average across all classes. Those with an NC grade in any concentration course typically won't qualify, except under special conditions. Prospective candidates should consult with the program director in their sixth semester and submit their honors proposal by that semester's end or at the latest by the start of their seventh semester. Honors students complete all standard GNSS requirements along with GNSS 1970 and 1980 (thesis courses) in their final year. In their senior fall, they must register for GNSS 1970 and 1990 (Senior Seminar), followed by GNSS 1980 in the spring. The advisor evaluates 1970 and 1980, while the Senior Seminar instructor assesses 1990. While students may submit similar written work for both GNSS 1970 and 1990, the program requires sufficiently different contributions for each (such as seminar readings and presentations versus thesis research and drafting) to justify earning credit for two separate courses.
