The Early Modern World Concentration encourages cross-disciplinary and multifaceted studies of historical societies globally, spanning from the decline of feudalism to the emergence of industrial capitalism (approximately the 14th to late 19th centuries). Participants enroll in diverse courses across multiple departments and learn from faculty associated with the Center for Early Modern World Studies. Concentration participants receive guidance from professors, Brown University's special collections librarians, and graduate scholars researching related subjects.
This program invites students to explore its wide-ranging curriculum to deepen their comprehension of the era while examining the applications, constraints, and connections between different academic methodologies.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
