The Anthropology undergraduate program offers foundational education across anthropology's four main areas: socio-cultural studies, archaeology, linguistic anthropology, and biological anthropology. Students can either embrace the discipline's full spectrum or specialize in specific fields, including the department's notable strengths like medical anthropology or Mayan archaeology. Numerous courses cater to non-majors as well, with the department welcoming students from across Brown University to participate in its academic offerings. Brown's Anthropology Department boasts an energetic, distinguished faculty primarily engaged in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and linguistic anthropology. This program delivers a comprehensive overview of the field, covering its principal branches: sociocultural anthropology, archaeology, linguistic anthropology, and biological anthropology.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
