The Africana Studies concentration offers an in-depth exploration of the creative, historical, literary, and philosophical contributions of African communities and their global diaspora. This interdisciplinary program fosters collaboration between artists, academics, and writers to bridge scholarly research with artistic interpretations of human experiences. Students engage directly with faculty to expand understanding of African and diasporic cultures through rigorous academic inquiry. The program strongly recommends international study opportunities in Africa, the Caribbean, or Latin America, along with proficiency in an African or diasporic language beyond English. Examine the development of artistic movements, cultural practices, intellectual thought, and political systems across African societies and their global communities.
