BYU's Graphic Design program replicates a real-world studio environment where students tackle challenging visual projects. Working in intimate cohort groups, learners engage in diverse solo and team assignments with close faculty mentorship. Known for its award-winning student creations, the program maintains a strong global standing. Coursework covers typography, motion graphics, digital interfaces, brand identity, drawing techniques, artistic principles, historical context, and additional design disciplines.
Admission to the Graphic Design BFA is competitive, requiring departmental approval. Prospective students must declare pre-major interest, finish DESGD 145, and submit a digital portfolio. Pre-major applications are due at the conclusion of Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.
Those awarded pre-BFA standing complete prerequisite courses before becoming eligible for the professional program via June portfolio evaluation.
