This program fulfills the educational criteria established for obtaining a professional license or certification required for specific occupations in Utah. Students aiming for careers that mandate licensure or certification outside of Utah should reach out to the relevant BYU academic advising center and the licensing authority in their intended state of employment to understand and navigate the necessary requirements.
For majors declared after December 16, 2019, any required course in a teaching major or minor with a grade below C will not count toward the degree. Teacher candidates must uphold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 after program admission and to be eligible for student teaching. Further information about admission and continuation criteria for teaching majors and minors can be found in the Educator Preparation Program Requirements section of the Undergraduate Catalog.
Earning a teaching minor in an additional subject is highly encouraged. Job prospects in public schools may be considerably limited without the secondary teaching qualification that a minor provides.
