The Department of Political Science seeks to deliver comprehensive education that enhances students' ability to examine political events, government operations, and their broader global and personal implications.
We employ diverse approaches—from statistical analysis of measurable data to historical comparisons of systems—to cultivate critical thinking skills. Our goal is to inspire students to actively participate in shaping their communities, religious institutions, and global affairs.
Though not exclusively a liberal arts program, pre-professional track, or citizenship curriculum, we transform politically engaged liberal arts students into knowledgeable graduates. They become equipped for societal involvement, advanced political science studies, or other professional pursuits.
This degree mandates at least 27 credit hours of on-campus political science coursework at BYU (excluding Independent Study courses). These credits may also fulfill BYU's 30-hour graduation residency requirement.
