The Department of Political Science seeks to deliver comprehensive education that enhances students' ability to examine political events and government operations, while grasping their global and personal relevance.
We employ diverse approaches—from statistical analysis of data to historical comparisons of systems—to cultivate critical thinking. Our goal is to inspire students to actively influence their communities, religious institutions, and global affairs.
Though not exclusively a liberal arts, pre-professional, or citizenship program, we transform politically engaged liberal arts students into knowledgeable graduates. They become equipped to participate in societal matters, pursue advanced political science studies, or enter other professional fields.
This degree mandates at least 27 credit hours of on-campus political science coursework at BYU (excluding Independent Study courses). These credits may also fulfill BYU's 30-hour graduation residency requirement.
