European Studies is an interdisciplinary program that explores Europe's vibrant cultural heritage and its contemporary global influence. Tailored for students fascinated by European culture, this major offers access to more than 100 BYU professors specializing in social sciences, humanities, languages, business, and fine arts. In addition to gaining deep insights into European history and culture while fostering global citizenship, students develop valuable skills in research, critical thinking, communication, networking, and teamwork.
Students in European Studies can learn from over 150 BYU faculty experts in European languages, history, literature, politics, social sciences, business, and performing arts. They engage with renowned scholars and benefit from BYU's exceptional language programs. Annual opportunities include diplomatic luncheons, guest lectures, faculty-led discussions at Caf Europa, and events hosted by the European Studies Student Association (ESSA). The program also provides exclusive access to professional development experiences such as internships with the Brussels Government and Society or Scottish Parliament, presentations at top undergraduate research conferences, and participation in BYU's acclaimed Model EU team. Students are strongly encouraged to explore study abroad options, including SAGE programs in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, and Madrid.
