The Asian Studies major offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that equips students for professional paths and graduate studies focusing on Asian languages, history, geography, political systems, and cultural aspects—areas not fully addressed by single-department majors.
Learning Objectives: Graduates will exhibit broad factual understanding of East Asia's literature, humanities, historical developments, political systems, economic factors, geographical features, and societal contexts. This foundation is built through core courses including: Asian 200 (Introduction to Asian Studies: Research Approaches), Asian 342 (Literary Heritage of Asia), History 231 (East Asian History Survey), either IHum 241 (Asian Humanities) or IHum 243 (South Asian Humanities Overview), and either Poli 348 (Asian Political Systems) or Poli 385 (Asia's International Relations).
