The Brandeis MAT equips you to create meaningful change in diverse educational settings.
Our rigorous one-year program enables you to obtain a master's degree, an elementary or secondary (subject-specific) Massachusetts Initial License, with the opportunity to pursue additional certification in Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language. You'll also secure employment—100% of Brandeis MAT graduates land teaching positions immediately after completing the program. Your academic work will be closely tied to a year-long student-teaching placement in urban public schools, suburban districts, or Jewish day schools.
As an MAT student, you'll become part of a passionate, intellectually curious group of future educators. You'll collaborate to apply key concepts—such as equity, justice, cognitive development, and differentiated instruction—to everyday teaching practice. Your final project involves conducting Teacher Research, where you'll methodically examine the teaching and learning processes in your classroom.
