For those seeking to explore a subject they're passionate about, boost their professional qualifications, or develop essential skills for doctoral studies, earning a Master of Arts in anthropology from Brandeis is an excellent option.
Our program prepares students for independent research, focusing on comparative studies, theoretical foundations, and hands-on ethnographic and archaeological fieldwork. Core coursework covers anthropology's history, theories, and methodologies, with specialization available in two key areas:
Sociocultural Anthropology
Our distinguished faculty specialize in diverse subfields and global regions. This track encourages interdisciplinary studies across departments and includes language instruction.
Anthropological Archaeology
Faculty expertise particularly shines in Mesoamerican studies. Students can collaborate with archaeologists in Brandeis's Classical Studies Department and enroll in courses at any of the seven local universities participating in MIT's Center for Materials Research in Archaeology and Ethnology consortium.
