Chemistry seeks to explain natural phenomena by examining molecular interactions, bridging disciplines like physics, mathematics, environmental sciences, and biomedical fields. At Brandeis, the chemistry department provides an exceptional education in a close-knit environment where professors and students collaborate directly. Students gain hands-on laboratory skills through coursework and internship opportunities.
The program strongly encourages chemistry majors to engage in independent research, a vital component of scientific training. Approximately 10-12 seniors enroll in Chem 99D annually, completing honors theses, while numerous sophomores and juniors contribute to departmental research projects. Undergraduate researchers have recently published collaborative work in prestigious journals including Inorganic Chemistry, Organometallics, JACS, Organic Letters, and other leading chemistry publications.
