The biochemistry program prepares students with comprehensive, quantitative knowledge of chemical and molecular foundations that drive biological systems. This concentration serves as a springboard for careers in medicine, biotechnology, and diverse research areas within the biological sciences.
The program's core objective is to establish strong fundamentals in physics and chemistry, enabling students to explore the molecular basis of life processes. Specialized coursework includes topics like molecular genetics and physical biochemistry, delving into cutting-edge research on proteins, nucleic acids, and cellular membrane structures.
Most Brandeis biochemistry alumni pursue advanced degrees in biochemistry, medical fields, veterinary science, business, or law. Others launch directly into careers—particularly in pharmaceutical or biotech industries—either as long-term professional paths or to build experience before continuing their education.
