The Middle East presents a fascinating blend of complexity and diversity, boasting both ancient heritage and contemporary global significance. To fully grasp this region's multifaceted nature, our interdisciplinary program offers essential multidisciplinary perspectives.
Pursuing an Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) degree or minor allows you to investigate Middle Eastern history, languages, faith traditions, and social structures, alongside Islamic philosophy and values. Moving beyond conventional political and economic studies, you can examine subjects like gender studies, conflict resolution, literary translation, and regional artistic expressions. Our flexible curriculum supports focused specialization while maintaining comprehensive coverage, and includes language mastery in Arabic or Hebrew.
An IMES qualification prepares students for postgraduate opportunities, including Brandeis' own graduate programs, while equipping them for professional paths in international relations, public service, nonprofit work, global commerce, and related fields.
