After successfully completing a performance audition, you'll dive into department life. You'll select either an instrumental or vocal specialization and receive private instruction every semester. Additionally, you'll participate (and potentially tour) with one of our 15 ensembles that may perform your compositions. Composition students enjoy weekly composition tutorials, group seminars, masterclasses, plus coursework in orchestration, counterpoint, modern music theory, and audio technology.
Upon graduation, you may have accomplished:
Showcasing original works each term at contemporary music events
Collaborations with university orchestras for performances and reading sessions
Creating an immersive video game score alongside our Interactive Media students
Presenting a senior recital featuring peers and professors performing your pieces
Gaining industry experience through our Hollywood Semester internship
International study opportunities
Building professional connections through on-campus and off-campus performances, talks, and master sessions
