The biochemistry program combines chemistry and biology to explore biological systems from a molecular perspective. You'll build a strong base in both chemistry and biology to grasp the chemical foundations of life. Starting in your first year, you'll have access to research opportunities working alongside faculty mentors. These research experiences extend throughout the year via laboratory work, independent studies, and summer funding. Such projects enhance your laboratory expertise while allowing you to contribute to fields like medicine, agriculture, and beyond.
Upon graduation, you'll have gained:
Personalized faculty guidance beginning in your first year, with a remarkable 2:1 faculty-to-first-year-student ratio in the department
Practical training using cutting-edge laboratory instruments
An intensive senior research project spanning a full semester
Chances to co-author research with professors and showcase findings at conferences ranging from local to national levels
Professional development through weekly seminars, department jobs, the Chemistry Club, and the Chemistry Demonstration Team
