The Art History program enhances your ability to interpret how artworks and visual imagery convey meaning across different eras and cultures. As you examine artistic creations from diverse civilizations and historical periods, you'll sharpen your observation abilities, argumentation skills, and research capabilities while improving how you express ideas.
By taking various courses, from practical studio art classes to specialized advanced seminars, you'll develop greater visual perception and interpretive skills. All instruction occurs in the vibrant Heuser Art Center, where intimate class settings promote meaningful conversations with professors and peers. This independent major offers customizable electives to align with your professional goals and frequently complements studio art, chemistry, and other science degrees.
Upon graduation, you may have gained:
Practical experience through internships in arts administration, curation, gallery operations, or art criticism. (Past students have interned at institutions like the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Peoria Riverfront Museum, and Illinois Women Artists Project).
Professional connections and career growth through the Visual Voices Visiting Artists Program, Art Historian initiatives, and the Biennial Midwest Women Artists Symposium
International study options via Bradley's Study Abroad offerings or partner programs
Chances to pursue self-directed research projects.
