Program Objectives
Graduates with a bachelor's degree in journalism will achieve the following competencies:

Comprehend and implement free speech and press principles, including rights to dissent, scrutinize authority, and seek redress,
Grasp how media professionals and institutions have historically influenced communication,
Recognize how gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other diversity factors relate to mass media,
Appreciate cultural diversity and mass communication's global impact,
Utilize visual and informational concepts effectively,
Uphold ethical standards while pursuing truthful, accurate, fair, and inclusive reporting,
Develop independent, analytical, and innovative thinking skills,
Employ research methodologies relevant to communication fields,

Qualification Requirements

For admission to Bowling Green State University, a freshman applicant must:
Be a graduate of a senior high school approved or accredited by the department of education of the state in which it is located, OR
Have earned high school equivalency through the General Educational Development (GED) testing program (issued by the state department of education), OR
Present GED test results and ACT or SAT test results, if the student completed secondary education through an alternative program such as home schooling, OR
Present an international baccalaureate diploma or certificate.
Admission is selective. In general, we require a high school record that includes four units each of English and mathematics, three units each of science and social studies, two units of a foreign language, and one unit of visual or performing arts.
An applicant is considered for admission on the basis of four criteria:
