Begin your teaching journey from day one at our institution The highly-regarded music education program at Bowling Green State University is rooted in academic excellence, performance skills, and pedagogy, guided by top-tier faculty members.
Music Education majors first tackle foundational music courses (including music theory, ear training, and music history). They then progress to instrument-specific technique classes and specialized teaching methods tailored to their chosen focus (vocal, band, or general music education). The program incorporates classroom observations, hands-on teaching practice in real-world settings, and culminates in a student teaching placement.
This degree program qualifies graduates for certification to teach music at all grade levels, specializing in choral, instrumental (band/orchestra), or general music education. The curriculum combines classroom instruction, practical labs, and field work. Students gain diverse teaching opportunities through partner schools and community outreach initiatives, all supervised by faculty mentors before their final student teaching placement.
