Admission to the Bachelor of Music degree program with a composition major requires an audition before the relevant faculty panel. This evaluation can occur during the initial College of Musical Arts instrumental/vocal audition or later during the student's academic journey. All admitted candidates enter as pre-composition majors initially.
Prospective composition students must provide a portfolio showcasing original scores (preferably with accompanying recordings in digital format), demonstrate proficiency in their primary performance area, and attain an excellent result on the music theory placement test. After being admitted as pre-composition majors, students work with advisors to create personalized study plans aligned with degree requirements and individual goals. During their sophomore year, pre-composition students present a collection of original works along with other necessary materials. Those who successfully complete this evaluation process gain full acceptance as composition majors.
