The Schools of Theology and Education provide two combined degree options: the Master of Divinity/Master of Arts in Teaching (MDiv/MAT) and the Master of Theological Studies/Master of Arts in Teaching (MTS/MAT). Religious educators find numerous opportunities across both secular and faith-based settings, not just for teaching religious studies but also various other subjects within religious institutions. By blending theological knowledge with academic specialization through the MAT program, graduates emerge as versatile educators equipped with interdisciplinary expertise and strong teaching skills.
The School of Education's Master of Arts in Teaching program caters to college graduates seeking to advance their subject knowledge while obtaining initial certification for secondary education. Available MAT specializations include English, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, Science, and Social Studies Education. Although applicants need an undergraduate background in their chosen field, prior education coursework isn't required. This program grants licensure for middle and high school teaching across all states and Washington D.C. through reciprocity agreements. (Additional state-specific requirements may apply).
