The Boston University Department of Dermatology aims to be at the forefront of skin health education, research, and patient treatment. We dedicate ourselves to outstanding clinical care, teaching, and advancing understanding of both healthy and diseased skin, while fostering innovation across all our activities. Our goal is to uphold the highest academic standards, with a strong emphasis on pioneering research, educational initiatives, and clinical services—especially for urban underserved populations and diverse patient groups. Through our efforts, we aim to uncover fundamental insights into skin disease mechanisms and develop groundbreaking diagnostic and therapeutic methods, benefiting both our patients and individuals worldwide affected by skin conditions.
Our department delivers dermatological services to inpatients and outpatients at Boston Medical Center, community health centers in Boston, the Jamaica Plain VA Hospital, and clinics along Commonwealth Avenue, as well as other locations across Greater Boston. Through eConsult Telehealth, our faculty offer expert guidance to healthcare providers. Housed in a 36,000-square-foot facility on the Boston University Medical Campus, we're situated near the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, School of Public Health, Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and Boston Medical Center—our primary teaching hospital. Our specialists cover nearly every dermatology subspecialty, including skin cancer, photopheresis, dermatologic surgery, rheumatologic-dermatology, phototherapy, laser/cosmetic procedures, hair loss, wound care, pediatric dermatology, acne, pigmentation disorders, psoriasis, eczema, and autoimmune conditions. Our researchers excel in areas like melanoma, cutaneous lymphoma, non-melanoma skin cancers, wound healing, hair disorders, rheumatologic-dermatology, MOHS surgery, and ethnic skin conditions.
