The Master of Science in Biology program equips students with comprehensive knowledge in biological sciences, paving the way for advanced graduate studies or careers in research and education. Students can choose from three flexible pathways: coursework-focused, scholarly paper, or research thesis. Each option leads to a master's degree, achievable within 1-2 years, with financial support opportunities. Faculty mentors are assigned to assist students throughout their academic journey.
The Biology Department provides three distinct MS pathways: coursework-based, scholarly paper-based, and thesis-based research. The coursework track takes one year, while the scholarly paper option requires a year plus a summer. The research thesis pathway generally spans two years. Regardless of track, students receive specialized faculty guidance in their chosen subfield starting their first semester.
Graduates emerge ready for doctoral studies or professional roles in teaching and research across academic institutions, corporations, government, or nonprofit organizations. The program welcomes applicants with bachelor's degrees in biology-related fields. Those with previous graduate coursework may qualify for credit transfers.
