The MHCBM Program stands unique as the sole accredited counseling program based within a medical school. With its strong focus on behavioral medicine and neuroscience, it distinguishes itself from all other counseling programs. This rigorous two-year curriculum equips graduates to pursue mental health counseling licensure in Massachusetts and beyond, holding accreditation from CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs).

Our intensive 60-credit program provides exceptional clinical training experiences throughout the Boston area, with placements spanning VA hospitals, Boston Medical Center, university counseling services, trauma and refugee centers, primary care facilities, emergency rooms, correctional institutions, and forensic environments. Additional opportunities include substance abuse treatment facilities, eating disorder clinics, inpatient units, and research teams. The program includes a semester-long practicum and full-year internship, complemented by comprehensive training in mental health evaluation, diagnostic techniques, counseling methodologies, and exposure to diverse client demographics. Our dedicated faculty delivers a curriculum enriched with behavioral medicine, neuroscience, and psychopharmacology components.
