Available both on-campus and through online platforms, the Graduate Certificate in Cybercrime Investigation & Cybersecurity—a collaborative program between Boston University Metropolitan College's (MET) Applied Social Sciences and Computer Science departments—provides valuable professional advancement opportunities for law enforcement professionals, IT specialists, business executives, and others looking to enhance their expertise in the growing field of cybercrime investigation.
Although conventional crime rates have decreased since the 1990s, cybercrime incidents continue to escalate. FBI data from the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) reveals 4,883,231 reported cases between 2000 and 2019. Since 2015 alone, IC3 has documented over 340,000 annual complaints on average, totaling $10.2 billion in damages. Experts suggest these figures represent only a fraction of actual cases, with estimates indicating merely 10% of cyber incidents get reported to authorities.
