Systems Engineering (SE) provides two PhD pathways: one for students with a bachelor's degree (MS/PhD track) and another for those holding a master's degree. These programs enable research in diverse fields including automation, robotics, communications, computational biology, information sciences, and supply chain management. Research initiatives are closely connected with the Center for Information & Systems Engineering (CISE).

This interdisciplinary PhD program draws faculty expertise from Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, and Medicine across multiple schools. Students must complete cross-disciplinary coursework and meet program requirements including qualifying exams and dissertation defense. Typically, the program duration ranges from 3 to 5 years.

Applicants applying to any MEng, MS, or post-bachelor's PhD program must have earned (or expect to earn) a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study.
Applicants to the post-master's PhD programs must have earned (or expect to earn) a master's degree in a relevant field of study.
