The Brain, Behavior, & Cognition (BBC) program brings together students and faculty who employ varied experimental and theoretical methods to explore psychology's central questions. BBC research spans key areas including learning, memory, attention, perception, decision-making, executive function, language, and substance use disorders. Investigators utilize cutting-edge techniques such as functional neuroimaging, psychophysics, electrophysiology, psychopharmacology, brain stimulation techniques, computational modeling, and behavioral/neuropsychological assessments. BBC faculty collaborate with several interdisciplinary research centers, notably the Center for Systems Neuroscience, Center for Cognitive Neuroimaging, Center for Memory and Brain, and Center for Sensory Communication & Neuroengineering Technology.
BBC's graduate program emphasizes rigorous, interdisciplinary collaboration, aiming to illuminate neural and cognitive processes across multiple scales and analytical perspectives. The program integrates expertise from cognitive neuroscience, behavioral & systems neuroscience, cognitive science, computational neuroscience, and neuropsychology. Following an apprenticeship model, graduate students immediately engage in laboratory research upon enrollment, joining research teams in their first semester. The curriculum provides foundational training in cognition, neuroscience, and research methodologies, typically completed within the initial two years of study.
