The MD/PhD dual degree program is a joint initiative between the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS). Tailored for exceptional candidates passionate about pursuing careers in both medical practice and scientific investigation, this program integrates rigorous research training with comprehensive medical education. Its objective is to equip students with specialized knowledge in medical sciences while simultaneously developing their clinical skills, maintaining this dual focus throughout their academic journey. Participants can select from 14 participating academic departments or programs detailed on our website. The curriculum aims to cultivate professionals adept at navigating the interdisciplinary demands of modern medical education and research, while also preparing residents with foundational scientific expertise for careers in translational medicine.
Completion of both the MD and PhD degrees typically spans eight years, with a minimum requirement of seven years of study.
