The DMD program's teaching methodology follows an all-encompassing clinical care framework, prioritizing faculty-supervised, student-delivered, top-tier patient treatment. Initial coursework builds essential understanding in fundamental and behavioral sciences required for delivering cutting-edge dental care. Simultaneously, learners gain hands-on patient interaction opportunities via Service Learning initiatives and chairside assistance duties. Subsequent training focuses on rigorous preclinical simulations and laboratory work to cultivate the technical abilities essential for proficient patient treatment. Upon mastering these components, students qualify to administer patient care.
As students progress in technical proficiency, communication abilities, and patient handling techniques, they gradually take on cases with greater complexity. Patient assignments occur within Group Practice units - small-scale dental practice simulations where student groups work under specially trained faculty mentors. These Group Practice Leaders guide their teams through every facet of comprehensive oral health management, stressing the integration of dental treatment with patients' overall wellbeing. Educators not only instruct this comprehensive methodology but also encourage students to develop curiosity, analytical reasoning, and self-assessment skills.
Graduates of the program will have proven their capability to deliver comprehensive oral healthcare within general dentistry parameters. This competency signifies the graduate possesses the necessary knowledge, technical skills, and professional values to autonomously maintain consistent treatment quality for their patients.
