The nutrition program offers three distinct academic pathways, all delivering comprehensive training in biological, chemical, and nutritional sciences. During the initial two years, students complete foundational science coursework alongside humanities and social sciences classes that fulfill BU Hub requirements.
The nutrition science pathway equips students for advanced studies in life sciences, medical programs, or careers in biomedical research, nutrition, or public health sectors.
Designed for those combining nutrition with specialized fields like global health or communications, the nutrition and health pathway blends core science and nutrition courses with focused electives. This option also satisfies prerequisite coursework for numerous physician assistant programs.
The dietetics pathway develops professional competencies for careers as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists across clinical, management, research, and industry settings. Graduates complete Boston University's accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics, qualifying them for competitive dietetic internships. Beginning January 2024, candidates must complete both a supervised practice program and a master's degree before attempting the national registration examination for dietitians.
