Students accepted into the 4+1 program fulfill all academic requirements for both a Bachelor of Music in performance and a Master of Music in education. Earning these dual degrees typically meets the qualifications for Massachusetts Initial Teacher Licensure.
Enrollment in the 4+1 program begins after admission to either the BM in performance or BM in education programs. Acceptance requires approval from both departments. Participants usually earn their Bachelor's degree by year four, then complete MM coursework and student teaching during their fifth year.
The 4+1 curriculum includes all coursework for the chosen Bachelor of Music specialization, plus additional classes that prepare students for the Master of Music degree with Massachusetts teaching certification.
