The Italian Studies program offers an immersive exploration of Italy's language, literature, and cultural heritage. Students develop three core competencies through this major. First, they achieve fluency in both spoken and written Italian, enabling them to thrive in Italian-speaking environments or utilize Italian resources for professional purposes. Second, they gain expertise in analyzing Italian literary works across all historical periods and styles. Third, they acquire comprehensive understanding of contemporary Italy's societal, political, economic, and cultural landscape.
Program Objectives
Achieve ACTFL advanced-low proficiency standards in Italian communication skills (speaking, reading, writing, listening) applicable to academic and real-world settings.
Develop thorough familiarity with significant eras of Italian literature and cultural works, including their historical and contextual significance.
Master critical reading techniques, textual interpretation, and analytical evaluation of literary and cultural materials.
Cultivate strong academic writing skills, including constructing coherent arguments, persuasive writing, and proper citation methods.
